Kevin Gaskell chairman of Motoring.co.uk spoke on BBC news this morning with regard to the current Toyota Recall problems.

Toyota's president has apologised for the problems caused by the raft of faults. But he has come under criticism in Japan itself from the country's transport minister for not reacting quickly enough to recall faulty Toyota vehicles.

Kevin Gaskell said “Toyota have started to do the right thing, they have been proactive and their website is up to date, the secret now is to get control of the situation and retain control.”

He also added that “Toyota have been around for more than fifty years they have produced many cars of fantastic quality and you have to remind the market that in the scale of things this is a small problem, it is a dangerous issue but they deal with it effectively with the engineering, then it is about communication and taking people back to remind them what is great about Toyota. Toyota is a great brand they produce great products.”

Toyota has started repairing the accelerator pedals on 180,000 vehicles across the UK. It says it has the capacity to fix 6,000 cars a day meaning it will be a month before this process is complete. The company has just over 200 repair centre’s across the country that can carry out the work.
