Oh my! The Citroen C5 Tourer and the Peugeot 407 SW have made the same mighty claim. Specifically, 'mine is bigger than yours'. These large family load-luggers are referring to their rear luggage capacities. The 407, for example, carries 430-litres of family-focussed junk with the rear seats in place, and 1,365-litres with them folded flat. Does that sound small to you? In contrast, the C5's capacities are 505 and 1,462-litres.

The Citroen C5 Tourer is clearly spacious, but hardly vast. Arch rival the Ford Mondeo, for example, has a staggering maximum luggage capacity of 1,728-litres. More than the Citroen and light years ahead of the 407 SW. The Peugeot 407 SW struggles as it places fashion ahead of function. As such its side panels lean inwards creating a sleek profile, but eating into the storage space. In fact, its 'seat-up' capacity is little more than its saloon sibling.

Despite sacrificing cargo capacity for style, the Peugeot 407 SW is generally considered less attractive than the more practical Citroen C5 Tourer. The latter feels more composed too, especially higher-spec versions with the self-levelling suspension and selectable sport mode. Very nice, but both vehicles are 'get you there' cruisers and not particularly engaging to drive. If you fancy a sportier estate, try the mighty Ford Mondeo or Mazda 6.
