Corvette ZR1 Finally Revealed

Detroit preview: Corvette ZR1

The Corvette ZR1 has finally been revealed.

The ZR1 has an all-new 'LS9' 6.2 V8, supercharged for 620bhp and 595lb-ft of torque - and good for 'at least' 200mph. It gets a race-spec six-speed manual gearbox and heavy-duty twin-disc clutch, modified axle, larger brakes with carbon-ceramic discs, track-specification part-aluminium suspension with specifically-tuned magnetic ride control, carbon-fibre bumpers, bonnet, roof panel and further details to save weight, and 20-spoke wheels (19" up front and 20" to the rear). Weight is down to just 1,519kg.

Specific styling details include a clear polycarbonate 'window' in the bonnet - so you can admire that engine and intercooler - and details with exposed carbon-fibre weave, a full-width spoiler with centre-mounted brake light, and the unique front bumper and air splitter design.

The interior incorporates ZR1-logoed sill plates, embroidery on the headrests, unique instruments, including a boost gauge, and a head-up display. Each car will also have a unique, identifying VIN number with code to easily identify its build number.

Prices haven't been announced yet, but they're bound to be competitive given the ZR1's performance.

Prices will be announced nearer to the summer 2008 launch. The only options will be chrome wheels and a Luxury package featuring power-adjustable, leather-trimmed sports seats, full leather interior, satellite navigation and Bluetooth phone connectivity.
