Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso topped the time charts for first practice this morning, but Red Bull’s Mark Webber went first in second practice beating Alonso by only 0.168 of a second.

Fernando Alonso kept his momentum going following a stunning victory at Silverstone two weeks ago by topping the time sheets by 0.323 of a second ahead of Red Bull’s Mark Webber. Alonso was the only driver able to lap the Nurburgring in the 1m31s for first practice and Mark Webber was the only driver to join him in second practice with the rest of the field in the 1m32s and below.

Sebastian Buemi nearly had a nasty accident at the end of first practice after his car left the track at high speed going into turn 5, the Swiss driver was lucky not to hit anything or flip his car after coming to a fast stop in the gravel.

Sebastian Vettel could only manage third fastest in both practice sessions, with Mclaren drivers Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button only managing fifth and sixth fastest in first practice and seventh and eleventh in second practice respectively.

Lewis Hamilton has stated that both he and Jenson are struggling with downforce at the back of the car, but the team have made some improvements with small upgrades that have been added to the car in practice.
