F1 GP Chinese Qualifying Result

Hamilton takes pole in China

After the controversy of the last race in Malaysia, the drivers headed to the Shanghai International Circuit for the third round of the championship. Q1 got off to a slow start with no drivers going on track until there was 11 minutes of the session remaining. Eventually Jules Bianchi took to the circuit in the Marussia setting a benchmark time of 1:39.025. Nico Rosberg then took 3 seconds off the time in his first flying lap, but it was his team-mate, Lewis Hamilton that topped the times with a 1:35.793.

Out in Q1 were: Valtteri Bottas, Esteban Gutierrez, Jules Bianchi, Max Chilton, Charles Pic, Giedo van der Garde

Sebastian Vettel threw the gaunlet down to the other drivers in Q2 posting a 1:36.260. Fernando Alonso in his Ferrari responded immediately with a 1:36.186. Mark Webber had a nightmare, when with 6 minutes to go in the session, his car ran out of fuel. Jenson Button had to get out of the drop zone when he was lying in16th. On his last lap he propelled himself up to 6th.

Drivers out in Q2: Paul Di Resta, Sergio Perez, Adrian Sutil, Mark Webber, Pastor Maldonado, Jean-Eric Vergne

The top ten drivers ventured out onto the track with just over 2 minutes remaining in Q3. With the battle for pole position playing out in the final seconds, it was Lewis Hamilton that took it with a 1:34.484. Kimi Raikkonen took 2nd with Alonso third. Sebastian Vettel and Nico Hulkenberg failed to set a time.
