Forecourt Update: ŠKODA Fabia SE L 1.4 TDI

New Top Of The Range Supermini

What Is it?

The ŠKODA Fabia SE L 1.4 TDI DSG is the most expensive version of the manufacturer's new supermini. The purpose of this 3rd generation model – as with most in its class – is to be a practical, easy to live with and cost effective workhorse for the urban environment.

The Fabia Hatchback has 5 doors, 5 seats and a class-competitive 330-litre boot that can be increased to 1,150-litres by folding the rear seats flat. The manufacturer claims that in comparison to its predecessor, it has more passenger space and larger cargo capacity.

What Engine Does It Have?

Power comes via a 1.4-litre, 90PS, turbocharged diesel engine that propels motorists to 62mph in 11.1 seconds. It averages 78.5mpg, manages 83.1mpg on the extra-urban cycle and hits 70.6mpg in town. Carbon emissions are 94g/km which – as this is below the 100g/km threshold – ensures that this top-spec trim can be taxed for free.

The engine is teamed with 7-speed automatic transmission. It enables the motorist to cruise in auto mode or select gears manually without a foot operated clutch via the gear lever. The latter ensures the vehicle can be held in (say) third gear to prevent it picking up too much speed on a steep downhill decent.

What Equipment Does It Have?

Fabia SE L equipment includes a key-less start system. It enables the driver - assuming the key is close to the car – to start the engine via a button. No more fumbling through a bag to find a key.

It also has cruise control that maintains a user defined speed. Handy on long motorway journeys. It complements a limiter that stops the car exceeding a velocity of the motorist's choice, (say) 30mph. Its purpose is to help keep it within the legal limit.

The Fabia SE L also has climate control which automatically regulates the heater and air-con to maintain a pre-defined cabin temperature. It sits alongside: Bluetooth, electric windows, tyre pressure monitor, front fog lights and LED daytime running lights.

Anything Else I Need To Know?

The New Fabia range – rather than the 1.4 TDI DSG trim specifically – has claimed Euro NCAP's maximum 5-star safety rating. This independent assessment proves it is among the safest in its class.

How Much Is It?

The ŠKODA Fabia SE L 1.4 TDI DSG costs from £17,240 on the road.
