Forecourt Update: New Audi Q7 For 2015
What Is it?
The Audi Q7 is a large, prestigious, sports utility vehicle with 4-wheel-drive. The new model is slightly smaller externally than its predecessor but passengers have more leg, shoulder, knee and headroom. It is also 325kg lighter and engines, on average, burn 26% less fuel. The Q7 has five seats as standard, with seven offered as a cost extra. UK buyers can order from spring 2015.
What Are The Engine Options?
At launch, it has a 3.0-litre TDI V6 that produces 272PS and 600Nm of torque. This propels it to 62mph in 6.3 seconds and averages 47.8mpg. Carbon emissions are 153g/km. The engine is teamed to 8-speed auto transmission that enables the driver to cruise in auto mode, or select the cogs manually via paddles behind the steering wheel (or a gear lever).
A 3.0 TDI engine with 218PS and 500Nm of torque will follow, as will a 3.0-litre plug-in hybrid that – via a diesel engine and a motor - produces 373PS and 700Nm of torque.
What Are The Trim Options?
Audi has not confirmed trim levels but they will incorporate a sophisticated specification.
Highlights include the Natural Speech Control System that enables the driver to control secondary systems by voice.
Unlike its predecessor, the motorist does not have to use pre-defined commands. “Hundreds” of natural phrases operate each function. When making a call, for example, a driver could say “I want to talk to Bill” or “connect to Bill”.
The Q7 also has Park Assist that autonomously steers it backwards into parallel and perpendicular parking spaces. The driver only has to operate the throttle and brakes.
The Q7 – at town speeds – also warns the driver that a collision is likely via a tone. If he or she fails to react, it then brakes to avoid the hazard or mitigate the severity of the impact.
Other features include: the large touch-screen display, high quality music system, 4-zone climate control, satellite navigation, speed limiter, cruise control and rear parking sensors.
Anything Else I Need To Know?
Cargo capacity is vast (890-litres rising to 2,075-litres with the rear seats flat in a 5 seater). Furthermore, the boot is operated electrically and – in combination with the smart key – the driver can open it by waving a foot under the bumper. Handy when carrying shopping.
How Much Is It?
Prices have not been confirmed, but are likely to range from £47,000 to £64,000.
