Frankfurt Motor Show Preview
Frankfurt Motor Show 2013 - Renault, ŠKODA Jaguar & Suzuki
Maybe, perhaps, and possibly the Frankfurt Motor Show 2013 will be the most thrilling for years. Why? Because the arena will be overflowing with a huge variety of intriguing machines. Highlights - if the rumours are correct – will include the Renault Twin'Z concept which is a battery-powered town car with rear-hinging doors. Renault says that this vehicle is the “play petal” of its “life-cycle flower” and that its green wheels are “inspired by nature”. That is enough to make anyone love it (maybe). The manufacturer will also show-off its Twin'Run concept which is the spiritual successor to the R5 Turbo thanks to its sporty set-up and 3.5-litre V6 engine. The ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback will make its presence felt too. This is shorter and sportier than the hatchback version and – in certain forms – has a panoramic roof and enlarged tinted rear window. Expect this fashion statement to be launched in the near future. And that brings us to the Jaguar F-TYPE Coupé concept which is the hard-top version of the convertible. Pleasingly, if the spy shots are correct this beast looks even more striking than its sibling. But if this car is to impractical check out the Suzuki iv-4 SUV concept. Why? Because the teaser pictures suggest that this small sports-utility vehicle resembles the Land Rover Evoque (perhaps).
Frankfurt Motor Show 2013 – BMW, Vauxhall & Mercedes-Benz
The Frankfurt Motor Show 2013 will also show-off the BMW i8. This carbon-fibre supercar has a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor that produce about 400PS. The result is 0-62mph in less than 5 seconds which could radically change the public's perception of hybrids. The BMW 4 Series will complement this racer on the stand and stake its claim as the replacement to the 3 Series Coupé. It must also take-on the Vauxhall Monza Coupé that will make its motor show début. And quite right. It has been to long since the manufacturer produced a low cost, large, coupé for the masses. This will be joined by the Insignia Country Tourer which is a four-wheel-drive version of the estate and the Vauxhall Cascada Convertible that will be sporting a powerful new engine. The headlines are 1.6-litre petrol turbo, 200PS, 300Nm of torque and 146mph. But all these vehicles might be overshadowed by the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG. Why? Because it has a 5.5-litre 577bhp V8 engine, charges to 62mph in 3.9 seconds, and is equipped with almost every luxury gadget known to mankind (maybe, perhaps, possibly).
