Mercedes-Benz S-Class Honoured by What Car?

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been crowned 'Best Luxury Car' for the seventh consecutive year at the 2012 What Car? Awards. Okay Mercedes-Benz, give the competition a fighting chance. As well as its huge trophy cabinet this status symbol has a superbly refined cabin. The interior feels like a world of its own, as if protected from the perils of the modern world. Bullet-proof is the best way to describe it. This complements the magnificent ride, poised handling, supreme equipment specification, and understated looks. And how about this? The top-spec trim has a 6.0-litre 630PS engine and hits 62mph in 4.4 seconds. Furthermore, the most fuel efficient model averages a surprisingly frugal 45.6mpg.

Winning once is great but seven wins really asserts the S-Class as the pinnacle of luxurious motoring at its best. Our flagship saloon has continued to impress since we launched it in 2005, but we haven’t rested on our laurels. Since last years win we have introduced stop/ start to the S-Class range which has had a positive impact on both fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions.”

Quality costs, though. Prices for the multi-award winning Mercedes-Benz S-Class range from £60,005 to an arguably overpriced £163,630. Oh dear, I might have to sell my kidney.
