Mercedes GLA Concept

World Premiere at Shanghai Motor Show

Mercedes have revealed the brand new GLA Concept at the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show and this fantastic small SUV will go into production early next year. It would be clear competition for the BMW X1 and the Audi Q3 it is roughly the same size and will probably be priced around the £30,000 mark.

The Mercedes-Benz Concept GLA SUV is powered by a 1991 cc four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine outputting 211 hp mated to a 7G-DCT dual clutch automatic transmission with 4MATIC all- wheel drive. Although in production we would expect to see the same engine line-up as the new A-Class with the option FWD or AWD. It stands on 20 inch wheels and boasts a large roof spoiler, twin pipe exhaust, aluminium and leather in the cabin, individual seats, multi-layer layout for the instrument panel and plenty more which is what we would expect from Mercedes.

Mercedes-Benz GLA World Premiere

The Mercedes-Benz GLA concept utilises the latest technology including the possibility of laser- beam projectors incorporated into the headlamps, the headlamps not only provide the light to drive by, but are also capable of projecting pictures or films onto a screen or other surface. Any format that can be operated through COMAND Online can serve as a source: pictures or films from a smartphone, the internet, or from a hard drive. The Concept GLA is fitted with two cameras, housed in the front roof rail, which can be used to take 3D images whilst driving. Although this is a concept the idea behind the technology is project information such navigation directions on to the road in the form of arrows, fantastic but we will have to wait and see if this idea makes production. What is unlikely to change in production is the shape of the car, the swooping roofline, frameless doors and the rear pillars that come outwards as they meet the tail lamps so that the rear of the car has a more squat and sporty appearance. The GLA concept car has four individual seats, the production version is likely to be available with the option of either this layout, or a three-seat rear bench and this car is sure to be a hit with the Mercedes Benz loyalists. comments; The Shanghai Motor Show has become a worldwide hit with car makers, and exclusive launches have consisted of the Rolls Royce Ghost Alpine Trial Centenary, and the mind blowing Lamborghini Aventador LP270-4 50 Anniversaro, but without doubt the star of the show has been the new Maserati Ghibli which is the first ever diesel for the brand which they believe will sell 50,000 cars a year by 2015.
