New Ford Focus 2.5 RS Reviewed
The new Ford Focus 2.5 RS is top dog, the undisputed king, the ultimate Ford Focus
The new Ford Focus 2.5 RS is top dog, the undisputed king, the ultimate Ford Focus. This monstrous beast has 300bhp and rockets to 60mph in 5.7 seconds, and on to 163mph. This top of the range model makes no attempt to conceal its mighty performance as it proudly displays a huge rear spoiler, a large body kit, and prominent RS badges.
Now, the standard Focus is one of the best handling vehicles in its class so the Focus 2.5 RS should be spectacular. Good news, it is. The front wheel drive chassis copes remarkably well with the 300bhp and this power can be applied to the road without fuss. Also, the suspension does a great job in controlling body roll yet manages to provide thrill seeking occupants with a surprisingly comfortable ride.
Keen drivers negotiating fast twisty roads will also appreciate the precise steering, but this can feel heavy when parking.
The Ford Focus 2.5 RS earns further plaudits for its practicality. Okay, so it is only available as a three-door hatchback and the Recaro sport seats limit passenger capacity to four, but in most other respects it is as easy to live with as a standard Focus. Therefore motorists benefit from the 385-litre boot with 60/40 split rear seats, respectable average fuel consumption of 30mpg, and impressive reliability consistent with its siblings.
Standard specification includes anti-lock brakes with electronic brake force distribution and emergency brake assist. For those occasions when you are not slamming on the anchors you can enjoy a six-CD auto changer, air conditioning, and a key-less engine ignition system. New buyers can also specify either blue or green sports seats depending on the vehicle's exterior colour.
The Ford Focus 2.5 RS is listed in Motoring.co.uk's new car database from £25,495 - £27,995. Granted this is a lot of money for a modestly sized Ford, but this vehicle is exceptionally talented and will be revered for years to come.
