The Kia Picanto Equinox - what is it? Based on the “Equinox” name, the obvious answer
is that this city car controls the moment the sun crosses the equator. Perhaps it does, but
this run-around is more focussed on being stylish than playing with hot gas. As such, it
has tremendous looks and a fantastic specification. Check-out the fifteen-inch black alloy
wheels, for starters, and the black radiator grill with its in-your-face red outline. That is
more dazzling than the sun through a magnifying glass. These features complements the
Picanto Equinox's premium chilli upholstery, automatic headlights, LED daytime running
lights, climate control, and the entertaining start/stop button. All this on an £11,695 city car.
The Kia Picanto Equinox has strengths to complement its specification. The 1.2-litre
petrol engine produces 84bhp, for starters, propelling sun worshippers to 62mph in eleven
seconds.
That is respectable. Furthermore, it averages a fantastic 60.1mpg and can be
taxed annually for twenty pounds thanks to its low carbon emissions. Great, low running
costs then – particularly as it is backed-up by a seven year warranty. And yes, the Picanto
Equinox has composed handling and a fairly comfortable ride. That makes it easy to live
with. My only niggle is the boot. Capacity, you see, is only 200-litres so best pack a small
bottle of suntan lotion. Overall, though, the Picanto is a nice little car. Roll on “the” equinox.
