Hang on? I think the new Peugeot 107 is here. It is difficult to be certain as this revised city car looks remarkably similar to its predecessor. However, there are a few differences. The front end, for starters, has a revised bumper and a deeper panel that houses the LED daytime running lights. The rest of the exterior more or less retains its reassuringly familiar features. These complement the upgraded interior that has three new specifications: Access, Active, and Allure. The mid-spec trim has standard-fit air-con, and the top-end variant has Bluetooth and a USB connection.

This machine is also available in three and five-door guises, but unusually for the sector the five-door is expected to outsell its sibling.

The new Peugeot 107 is a product of its time – and its time is a world where petrol costs more than diamonds, everyone is broke, and the ozone layer is thinner than a receding hairline. As such, its 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine is more efficient than the old version. Expect the manual trim to average 66mpg, and to return a pleasing 74.3mpg on the extra- urban cycle. Emissions are 99g/km, making it eligible for free road tax. Performance is acceptable too, so this 68bhp run-around hits 62mph in 14.2 seconds. That is identical to its predecessor making it even harder to tell them apart. At least the bumpers are different.
