New SKODA Rapid prices have been confirmed but I refuse to reveal them – at least for
now. Why? Because “my” survey suggests that only one of my ten friends have heard
of it. So – before we talk money – let us familiarise ourselves with this workhorse by
considering its “who, what, where, and when” credentials. Who is easy. SKODA has been
part of the VW Group for a long time so its products feel beautifully screwed together.
That brings us to what. The Rapid is a small family car rivalling the Ford Focus. As such,
it sits one sector above the SKODA Fabia and one below the Octavia. Where/when? The
Rapid will be launched in the UK on November 12th 2012. Great... now we can finally talk
money.
The SKODA Rapid is available in three specifications: S, SE, and Elegance. The base-
trim has: curtain air bags, electric front windows, and daytime running lights. It also comes
with a choice of two, 1.2-litre petrol, engines with outputs of 75PS and 86PS. All for
£12,900 to £13,700. Are my friends writing this down? In contrast, the mid-specification
SE adds: fifteen-inch alloy wheels, air-con, Bluetooth, and a leather steering wheel.
Motorists choose from one of four engines, the: 1.2-litre 86PS, the 1.2-litre 105PS, the 1.4-
litre 122PS petrols, and a 1.6-litre 105PS diesel. All for £14,560 to £17,100. Finally, the
Elegance adds: cornering fog lamps, cruise control, and a multi-function steering wheel.
Power comes from a 1.2-litre 105PS petrol and a 1.6-litre 105PS diesel. All trims also have
reasonable handling, a spacious boot, and modern styling. Hope my friends paid attention.
