The Toyota GT86 has received its first UK honour, being named best coupe in the 2012 Scottish Car of the Year awards.
John Murdoch, association president, Association of Scottish Motoring Writers said “the new coupe category produced some cracking contenders and, for most of the year, it looked as though the voting would go one way. Then Toyota returned to the segment with a vengeance and amazed everyone. Not only is the GT86 incredible to drive, but for a sporting coupe it’s surprisingly frugal on fuel.”
The Toyota GT86 was launched in July it has a front-mounted 2.0-litre “boxer” engine and rear wheel drive.
The styling and specification reflect its driver-focused character: exterior features include a rear spoiler, 17-inch light alloy wheels, chrome-finished dual exhaust tailpipes and a signature “T”-mesh grille. The T motif is repeated in the shape of the rear foglight, set centrally between the tailpipes.
Two versions are available the six-speed manual at £24,995 and the six-speed automatic at £26,495.
