Put Renault’s Kadjar On Your Radar!

New larger SUV on the way

Renault will launch its first C-segment SUV later this year.

The new model has been named the Kadjar and will be unveiled in February, at the Geneva Motor Show.

The Kadjar will compete with the Nissan Qashqai, Skoda Yeti and the Mazda CX-5.

Although no official images are yet available, the car is predicted to be similar in design to the Renault Captur, with soft and curvaceous lines and a larger interpretation of Renault’s full-width grille and headlamp arrangement.

The expectation is that the Kadjar will fit seamlessly into the Renault range alongside the Captur – the manufacturer’s existing B-segment crossover vehicle.

Both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive models are likely to be on offer, with various petrol and diesel engines from the current Qashqai range most probably also available.

If you wonder how Renault came up with the name Kadjar, it is inspired partly by the word ‘quad’ representing a go-anywhere four-wheeled vehicle.  The ‘jar’ stands for the French word ‘jaillir’, which translates as ‘springing up’ and hints at the car’s agility.

The sound and spelling of the name have an exotic feel, suggestive of adventure, discovery and new horizons, while the initial letter ‘K’ is said to be indicative of the model’s robustness.

Whether the Kadjar will live up to its name will probably be determined after the Geneva Motor Show, so watch this space for news!
