Retro petrol stations coming to the UK

Retro Petrol Stations

Petrol giant Shell hopes to take us back half a century to the glory days of motoring with a series of new retro fuel stations.

Pull into one of these for a fill up after a hard day's driving and you will be transported back to the serenity of the '50s, with attendants to fill your car up from the art-deco style filling pumps, a classic car showroom to have a nose around and even a restaurant which we would hope would resemble an American diner.

The first, called Shell Woad Corner, will open close to Aston Martin in Newport Pagnell, near Milton Keynes. Mick Pacey, who led the design of the new retro stations, said: "We are recreating the romance and glamour of motoring of the 1950s and '60s. The new retro venues will be a destination environment for car owners to meet, be entertained and relive the glory years of motoring. There will be events, exhibitions, demonstrations, auctions, rallies, automotive retailers, a restaurant, an MOT station, in fact, everything a motoring enthusiast could wish for, combined with a service that harks back to a simpler way of life.

"I'm interested in more sites. And while we shall obviously retain some retail space for our own Magic of Motoring Shell retro collection, I would be prepared to consider approaches from retailers wishing to be part of the international roll-out as more venues are opened." In total, 25 similar fuel stations are planned in 16 countries, in locations where there is historic motoring significance.
