A Ford Focus ST and a 1975 Ford Consul have one thing in common – The Sweeney. As
such, the former stars in the new movie and is beautifully equipped for the modern era.
Its 2.0-litre 250PS petrol engine ensures that. This propels Flying Squad Detectives Jack
Regan and George Carter to 62mph in 6.5 seconds and onto 154mph. Not bad for a five-
door hatchback with a spacious boot. Is that somewhere to keep captured crooks? Either
way it complements the rock-solid handling, sky-high specification, and aggressive styling.
But the Ford Focus ST is only the new kid on the block.
Why? Because a Ford Consul
starred in the original television series from 1975 to 1978. This stunt car has recently
been chasing crooks at the legendary Rockingham Race Circuit. Behind the wheel was
competition winner Simon Gribble from the Midlands. What a treat, as was receiving his
£1,975 cheque, bottle of 'seventies' aftershave, and a Blu-ray box set of the original series.
Simon revealed: “It was lots of fun to drive the old Ford Consul stunt car round
Rockingham, which is a great circuit. It was a nostalgic day and one I’ll remember for
a long time - the car was fantastic. Now I’m looking forward to watching the whole first
series of The Sweeney in HD with the family, whilst smelling of my seventies aftershave of
