Twelve Cars of Christmas – Seat Ibiza – Number 6

The new Seat Ibiza has pulled-up into Motoring.co.uk's Twelve Cars of Christmas list in position six. This party-pack of automotive magnificence contains our favourite vehicles based on economy, space, price, style, and popularity. So, what is it that appeals about this worthy little car?

The Seat Ibiza is a rival to the Ford Fiesta and Peugeot 207. It is an unconventional purchase and considerably more stylish than many of its rivals. Despite its modest proportions the Ibiza has plenty of interior space. It is actually one of the roomiest in class, so there is plenty of space for taking unwanted Christmas gifts to the charity shop.

Power comes from one of six engines – three petrols and three diesels. The entry-level 1.2-litre 69bhp petrol is rather slow, but the 1.4-litre 83bhp and 1.6-litre 103bhp are considerably more versatile. Diesels start with the 1.4-litre 78bhp, then progress to 1.6-litre and 1.9-litre units which both produce 103bhp.

My favourite engine is the 1.6-litre diesel which reaches 60mph in 10.4 seconds, and achieves an impressive combined average of 67mpg. This minimal fuel consumption keeps costs in check and leaves plenty of cash available for stocking fillers.

The Seat Ibiza deserves its place on the Christmas list because it is regularly overlooked. However, motorists in the know appreciate its engaging handling, impressive build quality, and excellent safety features. New prices range from £9,905 to £12,985 on-the-road.
