The used Mercedes-Benz C220 CDI is one of the most complete compact executive saloons on the market. It is also considerably more affordable than many buyers assume. In fact, Motoring.co.uk's database reveals that two year old examples of this robustly constructed status symbol are listed with 'buy safe' sellers from only £16,000.

For this modest price motorists benefit from the 2.2-litre 167bhp diesel engine. This propels its high-flying occupants to 60mph in 8.2 seconds and on to just over 140mph. This applies whether you choose the six-speed manual or the smooth five-speed automatic variant. The former also returns an impressive combined average of 47mpg, so its emissions are low and it sits in road tax band G/£155. The automatic model is slightly less efficient, it averages 42mpg, so it costs £180 per-year to tax.

As well as its efficient engine the Mercedes-Benz C220 CDI has excellent handling. On the motorway it feels extremely refined and comfortable, then when you show it a few corners it excels on the apexes.

Get a Test Drive Order a Brohure
This is due to the precise steering, excellent body control, and the overall feeling of being planted to the road. So, the C-Class feels at home in a wide variety of conditions and is a pleasure to drive.

Standard Mercedes-Benz C220 CDI specification - as fitted to the SE trim - includes the generous 475-litre boot, partially electric front seats, trip computer, automatic air-conditioning, and a CD stereo system. The Elegance trim adds automatic wipers, adaptive brake lights (that become brighter the harder you brake), wooden trim, and the multifunction screen display. Finally, the fashionable Sport trim has firmer suspension and AMG body styling.

So, there we go. The used Mercedes-Benz C220 CDI has all the ingredients necessary to be placed prominently on your shopping list. It is clearly a no-nonsense saloon that consistently excels and has the prestige to make your neighbours green with envy. Well done Mercedes.
