VW owners relax. Why? Because Volkswagen has been crowned Manufacturer of the
Year at the British Insurance Security Awards. Their vehicles' security features are
therefore likely to stump the sticky fingered. This is, in fact, the third consecutive year
the manufacturer has claimed the overall car title – and VW took category wins too. The
Sharan won the Large MPV title, the all-new Beetle the Small Family Car, and the Phaeton
Best Luxury Car for the fifth time since the awards were introduced nine years ago. VW
Commercial Vehicles also fared well, so for the second consecutive year the Caddy
claimed the Light Van title and the Volkswagen Amarok the most secure Pick-up LCV.
These awards were presented by Thatcham - a Motor Insurance Repair Research Centre.
Franco Iannotta, Insurance Ratings and Vehicle Security Manager for the Volkswagen
Group UK, revealed: “I’m delighted that the results of this year’s security awards are so
positive for the Volkswagen Group. Security is important for our customers and so it’s
important for us.” Peter Shaw, Chief Executive of Thatcham added: ‘Volkswagen has
always fared well at these awards and this year’s results are a tribute to its tenacity in
devising security solutions to design out crime and make its vehicles more secure. The
new Beetle coming straight in as a category winner proves that vehicles can be both
stylish and secure in the fiercely competitive Small Family Car segment.” Well said, Peter.
