Car insurance price gap for women faces EU axe

The ability for car insurance providers to differentiate between male and female drivers’ premiums could disappear if a legal case brought by the Belgian consumers’ association is victorious. The case challenges the use of statistics based on gender, citing the ‘Rights of the Lisbon Treaty, signed under the previous Labour Government. If the case is successful, female drives can expect significant price rises of up to 25% and premiums for males could fall by 10%, according to the ABI.
