  • Volvo V40 Hatchback
    4.0 out of 5 - 14 Ratings
    Overview
Apost Left The Volvo V40 – at least in its present form – has an air-bag under the bonnet to protect pedestrians. This feature helped this five-door hatchback earn Euro NCAP's maximum five-star safety rating. It is also stylish, nicely built/equipped, and pleasant to drive. It is, however, arguably not as sharp on the road as the BMW 1 Series and VW Golf. The boot is far from vast too, but overall this is a capable choice for those that want something different. • Volvo Xc60 4x4
    4.0 out of 5 - 21 Ratings
    Overview
Apost Left The Volvo XC60 is available with two/four-wheel-drive and has very confident on-road handling. It borders on fun, in fact. The XC60 has some off-road credentials too. This workhorse – which rivals the Land Rover Freelander 2 - also has a 495-litre boot rising to 1,455-litres once the rear seats are folded flat. These figures are comparable to a small estate so it is a practical family hold-all. This characteristic complements the wide range of refined engines, high equipment specification and fashionable image. Quality costs, though. Apost Right
  • Volvo S60 Saloon
    4.0 out of 5 - 27 Ratings
    Overview
Apost Left The Volvo S60 is a compact executive saloon that rivals the BMW 3 Series, etc. However, whereas it is nice to drive enthusiasts might favour one of the alternatives. The S60 - as standard - can automatically brake to avoid or reduce the severity of low speed collisions. What a fantastic safety feature. This complements the range's generally high equipment specification. Power comes from numerous petrol/diesel engines some of which are very fuel efficient and have low carbon emissions. Most have fair to impressive performance too. Apost Right
  • Volvo V70 Estate

  • Volvo V60 Estate
    4.1 out of 5 - 16 Ratings
    Overview
Apost Left The Volvo V60's manufacturer considers it to be more of a sportswagon than estate. It therefore – very arguably – has coupé-like styling. Fine, but the downside is that the cargo capacity is only 430-litres rising to 1,241-litres when the rear seats are flat. These figures are less than (say) a Hyundai ix20 so this is not the traditional, cavernous, load-lugger that for decades has defined the mark. On the plus side this mile-muncher is pleasant to drive, nicely equipped/built and fashionable. Solid choice as long as cargo room is not the priority. Apost Right
