The all-new Vauxhall Mokka has forced me into a circle of repetition.
Why? Because those impatient to purchase this sports utility vehicle keep asking the same three questions: 'What is the release date?' 'When is the launch date?' 'When will it be released?' Or is that one question? Either way, I can escape the circle by making one thing clear. The Vauxhall Mokka launches into UK showrooms in November 2012. However, impatient buyers can reserve it now. Motorists can also configure the Mokka via its manufacturer's website. Choices include the type of engine and transmission, plus colour and gadgets. This, of course, invites more questions that 'muggings' here must answer to avoid a second circle.
First things first, then. The Vauxhall Mokka launches with two petrol engines: the 1.6-litre 115PS and the 1.4-litre 140PS turbo. Models with the former have five-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive, and hit 62mph in 12.2 seconds while averaging 43.5mpg. Respectable, but hardly inspiring. In contrast, 1.4-litre models propel torque to all four wheels via six-speed manual transmission, hit 62mph in 9.6 seconds, and average 44.8mpg. Not bad. That brings us to the 1.7-litre 130PS diesel. This can be teamed with either two or four-wheel-drive and manual or auto gearboxes. Expect to average between 51.4 and 60.1mpg, and to hit 62mph in between 9.6 and 10.4 seconds. Again, pretty good.
The Vauxhall Mokka is also available with an optional bicycle carrier. This emerges from the rear bumper like a draw and holds three bikes. This complements the hill-start feature that prevents it rolling backwards, a system that automatically switches-off main-beam to avoid dazzling, and forward collision alert to minimise accidents. This SUV also has a spacious cabin and pleasing looks. Prices range from £16,995 to £23,490. So, is everybody clear when the new Vauxhall Mokka launches? Fantastic - no more circles then.
