Lowest Toll of Road Deaths Ever in 2007

Road Deaths in the UK have fallen to their lowest level since records began. The number of people killed in UK road accidents has fallen below 3,000 the number of people killed since 1994 has generally been between 3,200 and 3,6000. This dramatic decrease in road deaths has been attributed to older cars dissapearing off the roads and better car safety technology being included on new vehicles. In 1997 the average vehicle EuroNCAP rating was 2 to 3 stars where as in 2007 it is now on average between 4 and 5 stars.

The number of child road deaths fell by 28 percent compared to 2006, and every other category of road user also saw a decrease except for good vehicle drivers, but this has been attributed to the increase of foreign HGV drivers on britains roads. Deaths among motorcyclist also saw a decrease last year with deaths among motorcyclists generally on a upward trend.
