SEAT is a brand that deserves more recognition than it receives – and we can prove it. But how? First 'borrow' a pedestrian from the street, sit him in a chair and tell him to name the first few superminis that pop to mind. Chances are, the list will include the: Ford Fiesta, Vauxhall Corsa, Volkswagen Polo, Renault Clio and Nissan Micra. And why not? These are fantastic little cars that sell better than sliced bread to a man that constantly craves sliced bread. But what about the SEAT Ibiza? This supermini shares many of its competitors strengths and is – in some ways – superior. And there is more proof. Next, persuade the pedestrian to name a few people carriers that are available in the United Kingdom (bribe him with fresh bread if necessary). The list will probably include the: Vauxhall Zafira, Ford Galaxy, Renault Espace, Volkswagen Sharan and Citroen C4 Grand Picasso. But what about the SEAT Alhambra? That is a people carrier - that is a nice workhorse - and that is available here. At least flying under the radar can be a positive. Why? Because it helps the brand attract motorists that want something beyond the norm.
Right, let us explain to the pedestrian what he could purchase. The 2008 SEAT Ibiza has five doors, a big boot for the class and sporty styling. It also feels robust as its manufacturer is part of the Volkswagen Group. These strengths complement a range of engines which ensure there is something to suit everybody (even pedestrian). The 1.2-litre 75PS diesel, for example, is extremely fuel efficient as it averages 80.7mpg - whereas the 2.0-litre 140PS diesel propels motorists to 62mph in 8.2 seconds. That is faster than average for the class. The Ibiza is also available as a three-door coupé and five-door estate badged 'SC' and 'ST', respectively. The 2010 SEAT Alhambra, in contrast, is a tremendous family workhorse. Why? Because unlike some seven seat people carriers the third row of chairs is comfortable. Furthermore, folding the second and third row flat ensures that cargo capacity eclipses virtually every estate car on the market. This workhorse is also pleasant to drive and has a reasonable equipment specification. Other prospects include the 2013 SEAT Leon Hatchback (small family class vehicle), and the 2009 to 2013 Exeo (larger saloon). I wonder if our pedestrian could name either of those?
