Getting The Cheapest Van Insurance

Van insurance, also known as commercial vehicle or commercial van insurance allows the policy holder to drive a van or commercial vehicle over 3.5 tonnes.

As with motor insurance there are many differences between the various van insurance policies out there and although similar to car insurance, anyone looking for van insurance should consider what the need from the policy. For example there's every chance that this will be used for business use.

As well as checking if your policy covers you for windscreen cover, replacement vehicle if yours is off the road, you may also want to check that it contains cover for tools should they be damaged or stolen in the van.

In order however to get the cheapest and best possible van insurance, it helps to know what you can do to help bring the costs down. As with motor insurance, increasing your excess payable and adding extra security but you may also want to think about the type of van your driving. For example smaller vans by default will be easier and cheaper to insure, therefore assess the size of vehicle needed for your business and don't have anything bigger than you require.

A major factor in deciding on your premium will be how you use your van. If your job involves haulage, or courier then it's likely you'll need to look at a specialist insurer such as Autonet or Gladiator to many a couple, as many "standard" insurers will not include couriers or haulage contractors on the basis that the van maybe used to carry hazardous or toxic good, therefore greatly increasing the risk.

Another consideration when insuring your van is who is going to be driving it? If it's just yourself and a named driver then make it known to your insurance company, but if it's going to be a number of people you may be better off opting for a policy that covers any driver, this will cost more, but in the longer term it'll mean that anyone with your permission can drive your van insured fully comprehensively.

As with car insurance, the cost of van insurance has been driven down by increased competition in the market place so cheap cover can be easily obtained by comparing quotes and more importantly cover.
