5. The named driver
One way to escape a ridiculous premium as a young driver is to be added to an existing policy as a named driver. My mum was scooting around in a 1.2litre Corsa when I passed my test, so she was kind enough to add me onto her policy. The premium leapt £400 with me on it, but that’s far cheaper than if I had my own car with my own policy.
We must emphasise that this hack can only be used on a vehicle whereby the young driver will not be the primary user, otherwise, this would be ‘fronting’ which is a criminal offence! Don’t say we didn’t warn you!
