5. BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer

The 2 Series Gran Tourer isn’t your normal BMW. Firstly, it’s not rear wheel drive, it is available primarily as a front-wheel-drive car or alternatively as an all-wheel-drive ‘xDrive’ model. Secondly, it’s an ‘MPV’ or people carrier. The only one in the manufacturer's history, really, it’s not a regular hatchback but it’s not quite an SUV. The 2 Series Gran Tourer is, in fact, a purpose-built car for ferrying around families with a huge emphasis on practicality - a whole new batch of customers for the BMW brand to target. The rear row of seats pop up from the floor of the boot and although they eat into boot space, if you just need a 7 seater for short journeys or journeys without luggage then the Gran Tourer is certainly up to the task. The Gran Tourer is on sale now and prices start from £27,740 for the SE model but we’d recommend spending a little extra (£30,470) on the M Sport model.
