70 Years of Ferrari, 70 Years of Emotion

The Prancing Horse celebrates its 70th birthday in style, with events happening all over the world.

12th of March, 1947. Enzo Ferrari fired up the engine of the 125 S, the first ever Ferrari. What started as a dream to create the most exclusive racing cars, in a country rebuilding from the ashes of World War 2, went on to become the most iconic, famous and glorified vehicle manufacturer in the world.

Just 2 months later, on May 11th, 1947, the 125 S made its racing debut at the Pacenza Circuit, with a man called Franco Cortese at the wheel. Enzo Ferrari dubbed the race cars performance as a promising failure, as it was forced to exit the track early following a fuel pump failure while leading the race.

Just 9 days later though, on May 20th, the 125 S and Franco Cortese drove to victory at the Rome Grand Prix. 40 laps and 137 kilometres completed at an average speed of 88.5 km/h. The first of 6 Grand Prix victories the 125 S delivered in 1947.

Now, 70 years later, Ferrari are kicking off their birthday celebrations in style.

Throughout 2017 there will be events held across 60 different countries, allowing owners, collectors, racers and enthusiasts to experience Ferrari thrills in unique and individual ways.

The theme of these international events is ‘Driven by Emotion’ - one of the fundamental pillars which Ferrari embody in every single one of their cars.

Ferrari have launched a standalone website, www.ferrari70.com, where you can keep up to date with all the different goings on throughout the Driven by Emotion events. Naturally, all of this will also be reported live via their social media channels.
