BMW Reveals London 2012 Olympic Fleet
The BMW Group has revealed its London 2012 fleet.
Good news! The BMW Group has revealed its London 2012 fleet. The prestigious German manufacturer, you see, is the “Official Automotive Partner to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games”. As such, its machinery will perform a variety of tasks such as pulling boats out of the water at Weymouth, providing a mobile camera platform for the marathon, towing a horse ambulance across Greenwich Park, and carrying medal winners around the Olympic Park. With luck, one of the fleet might even take me to the sandwich shop. Please? So, which vehicles will be dispatched to the Olympic Games? Highlights include the (brace yourself for a list): BMW 1 Series ActiveE (EV), the MINI E, the BMW 320d Efficient Dynamics, (keep reading) the MINI Countryman Cooper D, the BMW 5 Series Active Hybrid, (almost there) the BMW X5 xDrive 30d, and the BMW X3 xDrive 20d. Phew! BMW will also supply motorcycles and bikes to make up the numbers. The numbers, by the way, are larger than a medal winner's ego; as there will be 1,550 examples of the 3-Series alone. Richard George, Transport Director for the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games said: “From motorcycles to electric vehicles and 4x4s, the requirements of the 2012 fleet are hugely diverse. BMW and MINI have provided a variety of different cars, ideal both for city driving and long distance, to travel to Olympic and Paralympic venues around the country.”
