What, when, who, where, and why is the Caterham F1 Team?
What, when, who, where, and why is the Caterham F1 Team? The 'what' and 'when' parts are simpler than changing a flat tyre. It is a Formula One team racing in its present guise for the first time this season, having competed as Lotus Racing and Team Lotus in 2010 and 2011, respectively. That brings us to 'who'. The Team Principle is Tony Fernandes, a charismatic and highly successful entrepreneur. Tony's interests extend far beyond motor sport, as he is CEO of AirAsia and Chairman of Queens Park Rangers Football Club. Other key personnel include race winner Heikki Kovalainen and Russian ace Vitaly Petrov. So, 'where'. That is trickier to answer. The Caterham F1 Team is Malaysian owned, but based in the United Kingdom. In fact, the outfit recently moved to the Leafield Technical Centre in Oxfordshire – which is the former home of the Arrows and Super Aguri F1 teams. This brings us to the biggest question – 'why'. This team wants to win the Formula One constructors' and drivers' titles. As such it must crush more established competitors such as Ferrari and McLaren – not to mention Red Bull. That is far harder than changing a tyre. To succeed the Caterham F1 Team needs consistent high profile sponsorship, tremendous facilities, time, and the best possible people. As with everything, a little luck might help too.
