The Chevrolet Volt has been named the ‘Best Eco Car’ by the UK publication Diesel Car. Diesel Car editor Ian Robertson said “just once in a while, history is made with a new design of car. The Chevrolet Volt and its sister model, the Ampera, have opened up a world of new possibility for electric motoring, extending it to a far wider range of people than the distance limitations of a purely electric car allow. This is the car that makes greener motoring much more widely accessible: an electric vehicle without the angst, an environmentally considerate car with range practicality.”
UK deliveries of the Chevrolet Volt have just commenced, after the model’s April launch. It is priced at £29,995 after the government’s Low Carbon vehicle grant of £5,000 is subtracted from the £34,995 list price.
Premium features include heated leather seats, Bluetooth with voice recognition and embedded phone, electronic keyless ignition with touch button start, 17-inch alloy wheels, ambient LED-based interior lighting, solar absorbing glass, DAB Digital Radio and an energy-efficient six-speaker stereo system that uses minimal electricity to operate.
The Chevrolet Volt is first car in the world to feature E-REV technology and has already picked up several awards, including North American Car of the Year, Green Car of the Year, Motor Trend Car of the Year 2011 and 2011 World Green Car.
