In just a few weeks from now the Cholmondeley Castle in leafy Cheshire will be transformed into one giant exhibition of motorsport for an entire weekend. This year it is expected that between 60 and 80,000 punters will descend on the castle to witness over 150 of the world’s most valuable cars and bikes tearing around the Cholmondeley track. There will also be air displays occupying the skies and watersport action on the lake - something for everyone, then.
We caught up with Dougie Lampkin, MBE, while he was filming the promotional video for this years event in the Castle grounds. Dougie is the 7 time World Champion for Outdoor Trials and 5 time World Champion for Indoor Trials. He won his first European Championship in 1993, his debut year, at just 17 years old and is the longest serving UK athlete on the Red Bull roster. With such a decorated list of achievements it is no surprise that Dougie has been crowned the ‘King of Trials’ by fans across the globe.
Dougie will be running his one man show throughout the weekend, entertaining the crowds as he rides around the Castle grounds performing tricks on his 300cc 2-Stroke Trials bike. He explained that events like the Pageant of Power will always appeal to him because it presents the opportunity to introduce 2 wheeled motorsports to a younger audience, who wouldn’t normally be exposed to such variety. After 7 years at Goodwood Festival of Speed, this will be the first time Dougie gets to strut his stuff at the Pageant of Power, and he hopes to spread the word that Trials riding is the most accessible 2 wheeled motorsport out there at the moment, and it is a sport that us Brits are naturally quite good at, as Dougies’ wikipedia page will tell you.
Dougie will be performing stunts sporadically throughout the duration of the event and he will even be tackling the Castle itself, so keep an eye on the roof and you might just see one of Britains greatest motoring talents roll past…
