Elvis’ Mercedes-Benz sold at auction
A Mercedes-Benz 600 formerly owned by Elvis Presley has sold
A Mercedes-Benz 600 formerly owned by Elvis Presley has sold for a bargain price of £80,700. The car was expected to sell for at least £200,000. It appears to be a ‘bargain’ as a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing sold for £441,500 at the same auction. The auction was held at Mercedes-Benz World at the Brooklands racing circuit, also home to the Brooklands motoring museum, near Weybridge. Bonhams said the car, one of two Mercedes-Benz 600 cars owned by Presley, had been restored to a very high standard.
An anonymous buyer now owns the powder blue Mercedes-Benz 600. It was previously owned by Elvis Presley, he kept it for two years before giving it to his friend James Leroy Robertson.
The person who was selling the car, who has not been named, bought it from Robertson Motors Memphis in 2005 and had it exported to the UK. The Elvis Fan Club attempted to stop the sale as they believed the Mercedes-Benz 600 is a national treasure and should have stayed in the USA.
