Exciting Cars For 2011 – The New Mercedes-Benz CLS
The new Mercedes-Benz CLS has the luxuriousness of a limousine.
The new Mercedes-Benz CLS has the luxuriousness of a limousine, the performance of a jet-propelled rocket, and the style of an Italian supermodel. This Germanic masterpiece is also rather unusual, as its styling is part sleek saloon and part curvaceous coupe. Clearly, this four-door beauty has plenty to offer; as indeed it should for £46,000 - £62,000.The new Mercedes-Benz CLS is based on the E-Class, so its handling is excellent. As is often the case with prestigious modern machinery, motorists can choose between driving set-ups. These are defined as normal and sport. The former maximises comfort, whereas sport stiffens the suspension, changes the gear ratios, and sharpens the steering. Both modes have their merits, but whichever you prefer the CLS feels secure and entertaining. CLS engines come in various flavours, but the most economical is the 2.1-litre four- cylinder diesel. This 201bhp mile muncher reaches 60mph in 7.3 seconds, and averages a highly respectable 54mpg. Alternatively, this seven-speed automatic beauty is available as a 3.0-litre 261bhp diesel, a 301bhp 3.5-litre petrol, and a monstrous 402bhp 4.7-litre eight- cylinder. That sounds pretty good to me. So, the new Mercedes-Benz CLS has a thrilling range of powerful engines, excellent handling, enviable prestige, and stunning good looks. It also has a high equipment specification that includes night view and parking assist, the latter of which makes piloting the CLS into a bay easier than offending a snooty waiter. What a magnificent machine.
