After the torrential rain last weekend in Australia, the drivers headed to the Sepang International Circuit for the second round of the World Championship.
Of the frontrunners it was Nico Rosberg that was topping the times near the start of the session with a 1:37.239, but it was Adrian Sutil in his Force India that got under the 1:37 second mark with a 1:36.809.
Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber left it late to set lap times and with just over 2 minutes remaining the Australian still hadn’t set a time. When he did he could only manage 15th leaving him very close to the drop zone.
Out in Q1 were: Jean-Eric Vergne, Valtteri Bottas, Jules Bianchi, Charles Pic, Max Chilton, Giedo van der Garde
Rain started to appear on the circuit behind the pits during Q2 and it was Paul Di Resta that struggled with the wet circuit spinning twice, as he struggled to get out of the drop zone. With a few minutes remaining, Romain Grosjean in his Lotus was in 11th looking to make it into Q3. Pastor Maldonado failed to set a time.
Drivers out in Q2 were: Romain Grosjean, Nico Hulkenberg, Daniel Ricciardo, Esteban Guterriez, Paul di Resta, Pastor Maldonado
The rain continued in Q3 and it was Sebastian Vettel that came out on top as he took pole position with a 1:49.674. Felipe Massa took second ahead of his team-mate, Fernando Alonso.
