Vettel Tops Singapore Qualifying
The drivers took to the Marina Bay Street Circuit for qualifying for the Singapore Grand Prix. Under the night sky it was Lewis Hamilton that was topping the times early with a 1:47.087 in his Mercedes. His team mate, Nico Rosberg took nearly a second off the time as did Fernando Alonso.
Red Bull left it late with their drivers going out on track with six minutes remaining. Mark Webber lapped the circuit with a 1:45.271 to put him top, whilst on his first flying lap, Sebastian Vettel could only manage time to put him third.
Looking to avoid the drop zone was Adrian Sutil who was languishing in 22nd with less than three minutes of the session remaining.
Hamilton topped the session with Jenson Button and Alonso behind him.
Out in Q1 were: Paul Di Resta, Pastor Maldonado, Charles Pic, Giedo Van Der Garde, Jules Bianchi, Max Chilton
The second session of qualifying saw the Red Bull drivers again leaving it late to set a time, as did the McLaren duo of Button and Sergio Perez. With a few minutes remaining Vettel took the top spot with a 1:42.905, but his team mate for next year, Daniel Ricciardo was in 12th and looking to miss out on Q3.
Q2 losers: Nico Hulkenberg, Jean-Eric Vergne, Kimi Raikkonen, Sergio Perez, Adrian Sutil, Valtteri Bottas
In the final session Vettel was topping the times early on with a 1:42.841 with only Rosberg, Webber and Hamilton looking likely to fight him for pole position. He held onto it ahead of Rosberg and Romain Grosjean.
