All the top drivers set their Q1 times on the soft (yellow) tyres. Drivers to drop out of Q1 were (from 24th to 18th), Jerome d’Ambrosio, Daniel Ricciardo, Vitantonio Liuzzi, Timo Glock, Jarno Trulli, Heikki Kovalainen and Sebastian Buemi.Sebastian Vettel went out in Q2 on the super-soft (soft) compound tyres and set a time of 1:21.095, Lewis Hamilton went out on the soft compound tyres and managed a time of 1:21.105. Mark Webber managed to go faster than team mate Sebastian Vettel with a time of 1:20.890, only to be beat by Jenson Button on a 1:20.578. Fernando Alonso then managed the fastest time of the session with a 1:20.262. Drivers to drop out of Q2 were (from 17th to 11th) Pastor Maldonado, Jaime Alguersuari, Rubens Barrichello, Nick Heidfeld, Kamui Kobayashi, Vitaly Petrov and Paul Di Resta. Fernando Alonso was the the first driver to set a time in Q3 with a 1:20.365, only to be beat by Lewis Hamilton who managed a 1:19.978. Jenson Button could only manage fourth fastest, behind Fernando Alonso in third and Sebastian Vettel in second. Mark Webber could only manage sixth fastest in his first run in Q3. Sebastian Vettel managed to beat Lewis Hamilton’s time on his second run and take pole position by 0.163 of a second. Lewis Hamilton will start in second, with team mate Jenson Button in third. Felipe Massa managed to out qualify team mate Fernando Alonso and will start in fourth, with Alonso in fifth. Mark Webber starts in sixth ahead of Nico Rosberg in seventh, Adrian Sutil in eighth and Michael Schumacher in ninth. Sergio Perez could only manage a 1:22.157 and will start in tenth for tomorrows race.
