Practice 2 was most encouraging for McLaren, Lewis Hamilton set a time only 0.039s behind Red Bull’s Mark Webber to go second fastest for the session. All the teams have brought upgrades to Spain, and early indications are that McLaren look to have made the most progress. For the first part of practice two it looked like Red Bull were going to dominate, just like they did here last year when Mark Webber took pole position in qualifying by over a second, and went on to win the race from start to finish. Sebastian vettel set the fastest lap with a time that was over two seconds quicker than the next car on the track. Mark Webber came out just after him though and went faster still, with a time just 0.356s faster than his team mate, both Red Bull drivers set these times on option tyres. Lewis Hamilton then went out on option tyres, setting a time just 0.039s slower than Mark Webber and pushing Sebastian Vettel to third fastest for the session. Practice 2 saw a couple of cars run off the track, the closest to an accident was Felipe Massa who ran wide at turn 5 and nearly slammed into the barrier. Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso finished fifth for the session, just behind a fourth placed Jenson Button. Mercedes GP drivers Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher were sixth and seventh respectively.
