Qualifying at Istanbul park, Turkey started off with a retirement, with BMW Sauber driver Kamui Kobayashi suffering from a suspected hydraulics problem and losing all engine power on his first flying lap of the Q1 knock-out session.Q1 saw Felipe Massa go fastest which was no surprise as the Ferrari driver went out on a set of the soft ‘option’ tyres. Drivers knocked out in Q1 were Kamui Kobayashi , Narain Karthikeyen , Timo Glock , Vitantonio Liuzzi , Jerome D’Ambrosio, Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen. Q2 saw Vettel go fastest with a 1:25.610, with Mercedes GP driver Nico Rosberg only a tenth of a second behind him. Drivers kncocked out in Q2 were Jaime Alguersuari, Sebastian Buemi, Sergio Perez, Pastor Maldonado, Paul Di Resta, Adrian Sutil and Rubens Barrichello. Barrichello was knocked out by the last flying lap of Nick Heidfeld, who just managed to get through to Q3. Q3 started with Button setting the fastest time, only for Alonso, Webber and Vettel all to take pole for a short period of time after him. Vettel managed to keep pole position in Q3 with a time of 1:25.049, followed by his team mate Mark Webber with a 1:25.454. McLaren drivers Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button start 4th and 6th on the grid for tomorrows race, with Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg starting 3rd and Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso starting 5th. Brazilian driver Felipe Massa didn’t complete any lap times in Q3, and will start 10th on the grid, Renault driver Nick Heidfeld will start 9th, just behind Michael Schumacher and team mate Vitaly Petrov who starts on 7th.
