Experts predict that falling fuel prices will increase interest
Falling oil and pump prices have prompted experts to predict new interest in gas guzzlers, potentially pushing up the price of previously unloved cars.
If you’re quick, you might still bag a bargain. Here are five of our favourites.
V8 Range Rover
For as little as £2,500, you can buy a beautiful 1998 Range Rover with only 123,000 miles on the clock and loads of life left in it. We found a 4-litre V8 SE model in immaculate condition. You’d pay maximum road tax and wouldn’t get many miles to the gallon, but that’s a lot of car for the money.
Mercedes-Benz S Class 5-litre S500 L
A super luxurious S Class suddenly looks even more attractive now that petrol prices have fallen below £1 per litre in some parts of the country. We found a 2003 example with 117,000 miles on the clock for only £2,700.
BMW 8 Series 850 Ci
As rare as it is beautiful, the 8 Series BMW is still a head turner. We found a fairly high mileage version from 1991 for only £3,870. Suddenly that 5-litre engine doesn’t look like such a deterrent.
Jaguar XJS 5.3 V12 Auto
The classic Jag XJS is still a beautifully sleek machine. It might be old technology, but this car’s 5.3-litre petrol engine means that it will still shift a bit. It can travel from 0 to 60mph in 7.8 seconds and on to 147mph. We found a beautiful example with only 55,000 miles on the clock for £4,990.
Bentley Mulsanne 6.8
If you want something a little more exclusive, then look no further than a hand-built Bentley Mulsanne. One of Crewe’s finest models from the pre-VW days, we found a 6.8-litre example with 127,000 miles on the clock for £3,750.
