Five Hatchbacks That Will Save Thousands on Fuel

With fuel now hovering at the £6 per gallon mark, you can save thousands with the new breed of diesel and hybrid cars

With fuel now hovering at the £6 per gallon mark, you can save thousands with the new breed of diesel and hybrid cars. The Audi A3 1.6 TDi is currently available at £18,990 it is capable of 0-62mph in 11.4 seconds and has co2 emissions of only 99g/km. Road tax is exempt as is the congestion charge and it returns 74.3 mpg on the combined cycle.

The VW Golf Bluemotion TDI should also be considered, t is powered by a highly efficient and refined 1.6 litre TDI common rail diesel engine. It can reach 62mph from rest in a respectable 11.3 seconds before going on to a top speed of 117mph. It does match the economy of the Polo Blue Motion which is capable of achieving a combined 74.3 mpg while emitting just 99 g/km of CO2. It is priced slightly lower than the Audi A3 at £18,665.

The Toyota Auris Hybird also steps up to the mark; this car was awarded the title of WhatGreen Car of the Year 2010. The Toyota Auris’ Hybrid Synergy drive is almost identical to that of the successful Toyota Prius, and features a 1.8 litre VVT-i petrol engine and two electric motors that work together to deliver power to the wheels in the most efficient way. The result is best-in-class CO2 emissions of just 89 g/km and a combined fuel economy of 74.3 mpg.

The Seat Leon TDI CR is good value for money priced at £17,355. Again this car is exempt from the congestion charge and road tax and has similar co2 emissions approximately 99g/km with miles per gallon at 74.3. Value for money overall would have to go to the Ford Fiesta Econetic TDCi which is priced at £13,895 which is considerably cheaper than others even though it provides all the same figures when saving money on fuel.

Also, of course, these cars will save thousands due to their economy, but they cost thousands more than similar but less efficient cars.

What a coincidence - all featured cars returning 74.3mpg.

Audi, VW, Toyota & Seat. Yup your right, FOUR cars mmmmmm.

Monique, There are five but for some reason they did not highlight or add the links to the Ford Fiesta

I can only see FOUR hatchbacks!! Is there an invisible one???
