The Ford Focus is officially the best selling car in the world. The popular family car has sold more than 500,000 units globally including 153,400 in Europe and 3,390 in Ireland over the first seven months of the year.
The Ford Focus first appeared in Europe in 1998 and won the 1999 “Car of the Year” award. The current, third generation of the mid-size car launched last year was designed on an unprecedented global scale, helping to make more technologies and features economically viable than ever before for cars in this segment. Key innovations in the new Focus include Active City Stop low-speed safety system, Active Park Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Aid, Traffic Sign Recognition, Auto High Beam, Driver Alert and Adaptive Cruise Control. This year, Ford also launched the new 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine, which was named the 2012 "International Engine of the Year" in June. The new EcoBoost turbo-charged, direct injection engine is Ford's smallest, yet highest power density petrol engine ever, delivering the performance of a conventional 1.6-litre engine with improved fuel efficiency and lower CO2. The Focus 1.0-litre EcoBoost is class-leading in fuel economy and CO2 emissions in the C-segment for petrol-engine vehicles
In Europe the new Ford Focus is available in 5-door, 4-door and wagon versions. This year, Ford launched the 250PS Focus ST, Ford’s first global performance car, the impressive new 250PS Focus ST has proved a real star of the show and stars in the new Sweeney movie. The new Ford Focus ST five door is priced from £21,995, with a stylish estate body style debuting at £23,095. By the end of August, Ford dealers had taken over 450 orders for the Blue Oval’s latest performance car prior to it reaching their showrooms this month.
A zero emissions Focus Electric, Ford’s first ever all-electric passenger car, will be available in 2013. With such an impressive line-up, Ford can look forward to a bright future with the Focus.
