Ford is the most popular UK brand and has just been awarded four awards at the ‘2013 What Car? Awards’. The Ford Mondeo, Ford Fiesta and the Ford Focus ST were the three models that received accolades. Chas Hallett, What Car? editor-in-chief, said “Ford really deserves its four What Car? category awards, it’s a fantastic achievement. It’s great to see a mainstream volume car maker building award-winning cars.”
The Fiesta was given the title of ‘Best Supermini’, What Car? said “if ever a car feels like it has been touched by greatness, it’s the Ford Fiesta, freshly facelifted for 2013, it now comes with sweeter engines and improved safety credentials.” So true, the latest Ford Fiesta is offered with seven powertrain options both diesel and petrol that deliver fuel economy of less than 100 grams of CO2 per kilometre, plus there is also the option of the 1.6-litre Duratorq TDCi diesel engine which achieves 87 g/km CO2. The Ford Fiesta is a fantastic economical small car with prices starting at £9795.
If you want something bigger than the Fiesta then look no further than the Ford Mondeo which was voted ‘Best Family Car’. What Car? said “the Mondeo is rewarding to drive, with agile handling and a comfortable ride. It will satisfy the family man and the business user, being as assured on twisty lanes as it is on motorways. The new Mondeo has also been brought up to date featuring headlamps with LED high beam, low beam and signal lighting. These new headlamps turn with the steering and adapt beam projection to vehicle speed. The award-winning Mondeo 1.6 TDCi is the best green family car, being both a brilliant all-rounder and remarkably eco-friendly with its low CO2 rating of 114g/km. The low emissions mean zero road tax in the first year and £30 annually from then, which makes this car even more attractive. Further success for the Mondeo with the Mondeo Estate being voted ‘Best Estate’, What Car? said “it is spacious enough to keep even the tallest adults happy, while its boot can cope with everything from the family dog to furniture.”
The Ford range covers everyone’s requirements and if you need something sporty then look no further than the Ford Focus ST, this was voted ‘Best Hot Hatch’ due to it being fast and thrilling when you want to be, but still ok when pottering around town or trundling down the motorway. The Ford Focus ST is Ford’s first global performance car, it is turbo charged with a direct injection 2.0 litre Eco-Boost engine that returns 39mpg delivering co2 emissions of approximately 169g/km and it is available as both a five door and an estate so it really does cover all requirements.
Mark Ovenden, Ford Britain managing director, said “Ford’s flying start to 2013 has been accelerated by winning so many What Car? Awards. Fiesta, Focus and Mondeo are the most familiar models in Ford’s line-up, so What Car? recognising each of them is a fine testimony to our latest range.”
