Renault Expands Its Sport Range
What Is it?
The Renault Megane GT 220 Coupé is the new entry-level route to “the world of Megane performance driving”, its manufacturer says.
This trim level sits above the GT Line Tom Tom – with which it shares an internal equipment specification and external colour pallet – but below more hard-core Renaultsport badged models.
The GT 220 has stiffer springs and dampers than its tamer siblings which guarantee a sportier feel. The chassis has been tuned by Renaultsport. It sits on 18-inch “Serdard” alloy wheels that have 225/40R18 Dunlop Sport Maxx TT tyres. The steering calibration has been enhanced to benefit from the special tyres and sport chassis.
Stylistically, it has a GT front bumper that incorporates a reshaped central air intake and a gloss black cross bar that carries the number plate. The rear bumper houses a diffuser.
What Are The Engine Options?
The Megane GT 220 Coupé has a 2.0-litre, 16-valve, turbocharged petrol engine that produces its 220 hp at 4,750 rpm. This complements its 340Nm of torque that is available at 2,400rpm. It charges from 0 - 62 mph in 7.6 seconds and top speed is 149 mph.
Despite its performance, this 2-door coupé averages 38.7mpg and emits carbon at a rate of 169g/km. Efficiency, in part, comes via the stop/stop system that automatically switches off the engine while stationary. It re-starts at the motorist presses the clutch.
What Are The Trim Options?
GT 220 Coupé is the trim. Standard equipment includes: dual-zone climate control, cruise control, a speed limiter, automatic headlights and windscreen wipers, LED daytime running lights, satellite navigation, Bluetooth, USB connection and rear camera.
Anything Else I Need To Know?
The cabin has sporting credentials. Highlights include its sports seats, leather steering wheel with thumb indents, analogue dials and aluminium pedals. The interior door handle pulls, outer air vent surrounds and the dashboard have a polished carbon finish.
How Much Is It?
The Renault Megane GT 220 Coupé costs £24,230.
