The 2011 Formula 1 points scoring system will define who becomes world champion.
The 2011 Formula 1 points scoring system will define who becomes world champion, which team wears the constructor's crown, and who receives their P45. The top ten finishers score points this year, starting with twenty-five for a win. The sequence is then eighteen for second, then fifteen, twelve, ten, eight, six, four, two, and finally one. So, if Jenson Button wins a race, both he and McLaren earn twenty-five points each. However, there is an exception that makes the maths a little trickier. If a race is stopped - and cannot be restarted - before seventy-five percent of its laps have been completed, both the drivers and constructors receive half points only. Equally, if less than two laps have been completed, no points are awarded whatsoever. The consolation then is that everyone receives a 'thanks for trying' smiley face sticker.
