Are these six Paris Motor Show cars worth waiting for?
The world’s premier motoring manufacturers will once again be trying to whet our appetites for their forthcoming models by displaying them at the Paris Motor Show, which begins on October 4.
Everyone knows that the manufacturers really hope to secure the interest of drivers who might put off buying a car until their new model goes on sale.
Will any of these cars deter you from splashing out sooner rather than later?
New MINI 5-door
The photographs released so far suggest that the MINI 5-door isn’t stretching the retro concept as far as people might think. Dare we say it even looks quite nice? In order to turn a MINI into the saloon which is so far lacking from the ever-growing range, BMW has stretched the car by just over seven centimetres. MINI adventure or MINI disaster?
Outlander PHEV Concept-S
The Outlander PHEV 4WD SUV plug-in hybrid has been one of the most exciting models of recent years, providing a glimpse of what modern technology can do to a tried and tested form of transport. It means that people who enjoy having a safe and rugged road-goer can still do so without worrying overly about fuel tax costs. The plug-in hybrid is said to be capable of 148mpg and produces only 44 g/km of C02. The Concept-S takes the, erm, concept a stage further. Mitsubishi is describing it as a Sporty and Sophisticated design package. Is a more upmarket Mitsubishi something that would float your boat? Is this a fuel efficient Range Rover Sport rival?
Infiniti Q80 Inspiration
The Q80 represents the next stage of Infiniti’s efforts to become a dominant and competitive force in the luxury car market. It will give them a direct rival to the Mercedes S-Class, which is narrower yet longer than the Q70. Infiniti describes the Q80 Inspiration as a top-of-the-line four-seat fastback will shake up the status quo. Only time will tell whether they are right.
Due on sale in the UK in the summer of 2015, the HR-V is Honda’s competitor for Europe’s fast growing small SUV market. They say it has built to combine the practicality of an SUV with the sleek styling of a sporty coupé. Do you agree?
Paris is the natural place for Renault to take the wraps off its new Espace. The Espace was a frontrunner in the now established market for practical and elegant family cars. This latest incarnation of the 30-year-old Espace has a tough act to follow and far more competition than it once did in the market. Will you be waiting for Renault’s family bus to arrive?
Audi TT Roadster
The nights might be drawing in but that doesn’t mean that all thoughts of summer driving should be set to one side. If this the new Audi TT Roadster is as good as it looks, it should be a worthy contender for your list of convertibles under consideration when it goes on sale in the UK in the spring of 2015. Featuring advanced hybrid aluminium and steel construction and an all-digital virtual cockpit, Audi is taking orders for the new TT Roadster from November. Prices start at £31,995 on the road. Tempted?
