Great Value Used Cars

Volkswagen Phaeton, Vauxhall Vectra, and Ford Ka are fantastic value used vehicles.

The Volkswagen Phaeton, Vauxhall Vectra, and Ford Ka are fantastic value used vehicles. This is because, for various reasons, these capable cars loose thousands of pounds in value over a relatively short time. So, let's consider each bargain in turn.

The Volkswagen Phaeton is an expensive executive saloon with a modest badge. This combination generally causes the used value to plummet. For example, straight from the factory in 2007 the Phaeton 6.0-litre W12 4MOTION (lwb) cost an eye-watering £73,860. This leviathan is now only worth a comparatively modest £27,000. That is a staggering deprecation of nearly £47,000 in three years.

Whereas the Phaeton is a great car some motorists crave more practicality. The second generation Vauxhall Vectra may be the solution. This fleet favourite depreciates heavily for several reasons. These include the unfashionable badge, large supply, and the fact it has now been replaced by the Insignia. Vectra prices are therefore modest for such a versatile vehicle. For example, the 3.0-litre V6 CDTi Elite cost £26,605 new in 2007. This practical hatchback can now be purchased for only £11,000.

Those who fancy a good value run-around could do worse than the previous generation Ford Ka. Depreciation may not be as alarmingly as the Phaeton's, but the arrival of the new model has affected the original vehicle's residuals. For example, out of the box in 2007 the SportKa SE cost £10,000. This popular city car has now halved in value to only £5,000.

Whichever class of vehicle you choose there are a few points to consider. The best value used cars are often recently replaced, sporting an unfashionable badge, or over supplied on the used market. These characteristics can be exploited to secure a great value purchase.

thanks for sharing this. is there a ford in sydney? Im looking for used cars, i will either go for Ford or a Jeep at

Vauxhall Signum, if 4 seats are enough for you (and it seems to be for an A5 or X6) then this is a bragin. More rear room than a Superb plus liggage space and not many on the road, plus down the pub you'll avoid the Feremy Clarkson jibes that you would get iwth your vectra IMHO :)
