Honda CR-V awarded ‘4x4 of the year’

It’s the first award for the new Honda CR-V and it’s only been here for two months

It’s the first award for the new Honda CR-V and it’s only been here for two months. Total 4x4 Magazine has awarded this outstanding SUV the honour of ‘4x4 of the Year’. Editor of the magazine, Alan Kidd said “never before have there been so many likely candidates for the overall title. However, from the moment we started crawling around inside the CR-V, it was clear Honda had hit the jackpot. The quality of its interior is on a par with the best, and its flexibility is exceptional and that was before we actually drove it. Seldom has a new 4x4 put such a big tick in so many boxes. It takes an awful lot to impress us these days. The new CR-V didn’t just impress us it made our jaws drop.”

So what does this ‘jaw dropping’ 4x4 offer? There are four generously equipped trim levels S, SE, SR and EX. The entry-level S features 5-inch Intelligent Multi Info Display (i-MID), driver power lumbar support, idle stop, dual zone climate control, cruise control, 17-inch alloy wheels, fabric interior, Hill Start Assist, steering wheel stereo controls, USB/iPod auxiliary input, one touch folding rear seats, plus a CD tuner and 4 speaker stereo. This is impressive especially as this is just entry level, there is also Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Anti-lock braking system (ABD), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) and central locking. The top of the range EX includes standard goodies such as smart entry, leather interior, power tailgate, electric driver seat with memory function, panoramic glass roof and integrated satellite navigation. There is no doubt the quality of the interior is impressive.

Dave Hodgetts, Managing Director of Honda (UK), was thrilled with the honour. “For the new CR-V to take its first award so soon after launch is a real festive treat for everyone and a fantastic way to end the year. We hope it will be the first of many.”

It really is a wonderful achievement for such a new vehicle. The Honda CRV is manufactured in the UK at Honda’s state-of-the-art production facility in Swindon, Wilts. Prices start at £21,395 OTR for the entry level 2.0 i-VTEC S grade 2WD model and rise to £30,995 for the top of the range 2.2 i-DTEC EX AWD with manual transmission. With such a fantastic recognition in such a short time there is no doubt this SUV will be collecting many more awards.
